Antique furniture restored in keeping with its era

The restoration of antique or period seating is a craft in its own right, requiring in-depth knowledge of traditional techniques and the ability to interpret a piece—to understand its era, identify its original materials, and respect its proportions before undertaking any work.

Armchairs, wing chairs, loveseats, chairs, sofas, benches, and chaise longues—whether in the Louis XV, Empire, Napoleon III, Regency, English, or Art Deco styles: each era has its own upholstery codes, springs, webbing, and finishes. Restoration according to the rules of the art involves finding these original materials—jute straps, hand-tied biconical springs, vegetable or horsehair stuffing, linen canvas—and applying the corresponding techniques, distinct from modern upholstery.

The upholstery fabric is chosen to complement the piece: period-style reproduction fabrics, velvet, damask, tapestry, or morocco leather. When the original fabric is identifiable, we strive to reproduce it. When the piece is part of a contemporary project, the fabric may be specified by the architect, provided it respects the room’s overall balance.

Each restoration is preceded by a comprehensive assessment and a detailed estimate. We work on individual pieces as well as entire sets—complete living rooms, ceremonial furniture, dining room sets—as part of interior design projects or for collectors.
